FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 7th, 2024 — The Fayette County Democratic Committee announces the successful purchase of its first ever billboard, launching October 7th on Highway 85 in North Fayetteville. In promotion of early voting, this 48’ wide digital advertisement was funded by 80 individual local party members. Along with election and candidate information, their new billboard features a stark warning against the dangers of not voting.

“With the local Republican Party moving to the extreme right and aligning themselves with the Georgia Republican Assembly, we have launched the largest ground game in our history in Fayette County,” said Joe Clark, FCDC Chair, “We have a record number of Democratic Candidates. With our massive amount of volunteers, we intend to flip Fayette BLUE up and down the ballot.”

Much reported on in recent years by Georgia media outlets, to the Fayette County Democratic Committee's Executive Board, voters needed more awareness of the outside influence hardcore conservatives like Marjorie Taylor Greene and the Georgia Republican Assembly have on counties like Fayette. Further, they felt Fayette County's shifting voter population of leaning Democrats and centrist conservatives would be shocked to see evidence that the Georgia Congresswoman spoke to a packed room of Fayette Republican Party members in downtown Fayetteville approximately 6 months ago.

The influence of far-right politics in local elections can be seen in 2024 Fayette Republican-nominated candidates like Brian Jack, a career political operative and Trump senior advisor who outspent all his local primary opponents with 75% out-of-State donations, more than quintuple Congressional District Three's fundraising record. Jack's opponent retired Lt. Col. Maura Keller is also smashing her fundraising records, but with local donations. There is also Republican Lee Hearn, incumbent District 2 County Commissioner currently running against retired Army combat veteran and commissioned officer Bobby Jones. Hearn has come into controversy in recent months for his major role in the Fayette County Animal Shelter debacle.

This billboard is the latest in a string of victories for Fayette County Democrats as they predict 2024 will be the year Fayette finally flips into Democratic control for both the Presidency and County Commission/School Board races. Recently, they have:

  • Fielded their largest ever slate of Democratic candidates,

  • Chartered their first Young Dems chapter, which is quickly becoming the fastest growing chapter of the entire Young Democrats of Georgia,

  • Helped secure Sunday voting for the first time in Fayette County history,

  • Held their biggest ever headquarters event for the Presidential coordinated campaign's regional ribbon-cutting ceremony,

  • Been interviewed by numerous international news outlets,

  • Hosted Young Democrats of Georgia President Parker Short at their monthly business meeting,

  • Appointed the youngest Elections Board official in Georgia history in Zach Livsey,

  • Presented $5,000 in scholarships to local high school students.

On Sunday, October 13th, the FCDC will be hosting their “Flip Fayette Blue Golf Cart Parade & Rally” in Peachtree City, which will see scores of golf carts advocating for early voting and speeches from local candidates at Drake Field, including District 1 County Commission Candidate Vickie Butler and District 3 Congressional candidate Maura Keller. On the evening of October 15th, the Fayette Young Dems will host a “Politics Pub Quiz” at Awkward Brewing in downtown Fayetteville.
